At the center of Tech Lane Ghent Science Park Campus Ardoyen you can find our pond.
Here you can find rest, enjoy fauna and flora, watch high tech boats go for a test drive, discover the newest food truck, eat your lunch at the terrace of the UGent restaurant, etc.
Enjoy the floral biodiversity of Tech Lane pond
In spring 2026 the eco teams of VIB-UGent have planted a range of species at the Tech Lane pond. The plant action transforms a managed water body into a resilient, native aquatic ecosystem by increasing structural biodiversity, improving water quality through plant‑driven nutrient regulation, and enabling long‑term biodiversity gains across multiple species groups.

UGent Sailing
We are UGent Sailing, a team of students and young alumni passionate about technology, artificial intelligence and sustainable innovation. Together, we are building a CO₂-neutral, autonomous boat to compete in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, where we are taking part in the AI class this year.
Our workshop is located here, in Technologiepark Zwijnaarde, where we turn our ideas into reality, step by step. Through weekly Design Sprints, we work together on different parts of the boat, sharing knowledge and gaining hands-on experience along the way. We dream, design and test, but above all, we build something new together.
In September 2025, we launched our first prototype on this pond, hopefully the first of many. What started as an idea became a floating testament to what students can achieve together. Beyond the boat itself, we are also exploring other sustainable solutions, such as monitoring the health of the campus pond and investigating the use of biofuels for future prototypes.
Our ambition goes beyond this competition. We want to contribute to a smarter, cleaner maritime future by showing that sustainable and autonomous technologies are not just ideas for tomorrow, but solutions we can build today.
